 Dear Diocesan/Eparchy Youth Ministry Directors and/or Representatives, On behalf of the hosting region of Ontario I would like to invite you to the Canadian Catholic Youth Ministry Network 2013 National AGM, from Monday, February 18th to Friday, February 22nd, 2013. We are very excited about being able to welcome you to the Queen of Apostles Renewal Centre, 1617 Blythe Rd., Mississauga, ON L5H 2C3. The AGM Planning Committee has been hard at work this last year in preparation for your arrival by working closely with your previous comments on what you would like for this AGM. We hope these efforts will make it a worthwhile and enjoyable experience for you. The AGM week is filled with training, executive meetings, a retreat day just for you, and a professional development day with dynamic speakers and innovative programs in youth ministry. We are working with publishing sponsors to provide you -- our colleagues attending -- with relevant resources from publishers. There should be many opportunities for networking, prayer as well as review and planning. MONDAY - Welcome! We look forward to your arrival! If you need a ride from the airport, train or bus, let us know on your registration form. After you register in the main lobby of the Retreat Centre and get settled we are looking forward to a great meal together, getting to know each other and reviewing the plans for the days ahead. We hope you will join us for a wine and cheese social at the Centre, hosted by the Ontario Region. TUESDAY - Our Retreat Day! This year our facilitator is Fr. Gilles Mongeau, SJ. Fr. Mongeau was born in Montreal and raised in Ottawa, He entered the Jesuits in 1985. After studies in Spokane, Ottawa, and Toronto, he was ordained in 1997 and served on the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Toronto. Rev. Dr. Mongeau received a Doctorate of Theology from Regis College and the University of Toronto in 2003, after research stints at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland and at Boston College. His doctoral research focused on Thomas Aquinas' use of rhetoric as a theological method, and on Aquinas' christology as the climax of the theological pedagogy of the Summa Theologiae. In addition to his ongoing research and teaching, Fr. Mongeau is a spiritual director, gives retreats, and ministers to people living with HIV and AIDS, along with their caregivers and friends. He also coordinates the "Regis in the Arts" activities at the College. Tuesday and Thursday evenings there is free time set aside for you to take in a variety of social activities in and around Toronto, such as live theatre, karaoke, outdoor skating, galleries, museums, sports halls of fame, chocolatier tours, shopping, etc. You are more than welcome to kick back and relax at the Retreat Centre too.WEDNESDAY - Professional Development Day! One of our speakers is the dynamic Dr. Josephine Lombardi, who will be making a presentation on the New Evangelization and Youth.Dr. Josephine Lombardi, B.A., M.R.E. (McMaster University), M.A., Ph.D. (University of St. Michael's College) is the Assistant Professor of Pastoral and Systematic Theology, St. Augustine's Seminary, Scarborough, Ontario. Dr. Lombardi has been called one of Canada's up and coming theologians and is currently a very popular speaker for clergy, young adult ministry and lay ministers during our Year of Faith. She is the author of several books and can be often heard on Catholic Radio Teopoli. We will update you on the website as we confirm more details for this day. Go to www.ccymn.ca for latest information!WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S NETWORKING SOCIAL: Every year we try to have one evening out together as a group. This year, we have arranged for you to be transported to the Steam Whistle Micro-brewery located in the historic John Street Roundhouse in the heart of downtown Toronto, south of the CN Tower and Rogers Center. Constructed in the 1920s, The Roundhouse functioned as a steam locomotive repair facility. It has been designated a National Heritage building as an "architecturally and historically important surviving reminder of steam technology and the role of rail transportation in the city of Toronto." While there, we will take a tour of this historic site and its current brewery. Then we are going to bring this grand building back to the roaring 1920s where the Flapper-subculture of youth was alive, prohibition had hit the country and the only place to party was a speakeasy. This 1920s party is for classy cats and dames with jazz and swing music to dance the night away. Along with a Steam Whistle Pilsner, we can try the cocktails of the day, such as the Bourbon Sidecar, Dry Martini or Manhattan. For the more adventurous, we can try the dance rage of the younger set - the Charleston! This social will be the cat's pajamas!If there are guests you would like to bring with you to this social, they are more than welcome for an additional cost. The more the merrier!THURSDAY and FRIDAY: This, in short, is the business portion of our AGM where the Executive will report on the last year and all members will participate in the shaping of the CCYMN for the future. Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archdiocese of Toronto, will be joining us for the closing Mass on Friday.Please join us for this exciting week by registering today here. The Network was established to help diocesan/eparchial youth ministry leaders communicate more easily with each other for mutual support, collaboration and development in respective ministries. Our local and regional diversity enriches the tapestry that is youth ministry in Canada, and provides the possibility of identifying challenges, trends and opportunities that help us respond to the needs of youth creatively and faithfully.
